「Consider」の語源は、ラテン語の動詞「considerare」で、「注意深く見る、観察する、熟考する」という意味でした。この語の成り立ちには諸説ありますが、有力な説の一つは、「共に」を意味する「con-」と「星、星座」を意味する「sidus」（属格は sideris）が組み合わさったというものです。
